Justine Morris: Artistic Director

Justine begun dancing when she was 5, trying desperately to follow in her big sisters’ footsteps. She has studied every sort of dancing since as well as performing in numerous stage productions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre Performance) and an Associate Diploma with Cecchetti Ballet Australia as well as an Affiliate membership with Australian Teachers of Dancing. Justine was head of Classical Ballet and Tap at MJ dance studio in South Australia before she was accorded the honour of the Directorship here at BBC. Justine teaches 6 days a week and enjoys class with students from 2 years old, right through to tertiary level dancers and for her, there is no better place than a dance studio!

Samantha Dunne

Classical Ballet

 

Samantha has had 18 years of dance training in Cecchetti classical ballet and jazz. She has been involved in many local theatre productions including ‘Cats’ and ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’. Samantha has performed in many dance eisteddfods all over Victoria including Ballarat’s South Street, Geelong, Bendigo and Warnambool. She has had 2 years singing training with Connie Lemke here in Ballarat. Samantha works permanent part time in an administrative role during the day as well as teaching at BBC. In 2008, Samantha achieved her Associate status with Cecchetti Ballet Australia and is working towards her Associate Diploma in 2011.

Stacey Clarke

Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Contemporary, Limber

 

Stacey has had 7 years of training in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Song and Dance and is studying for her Associate teacher exam in 2010. She has had performance experience in numerous musical theatre shows as well as dancing in eisteddfods all over the state. Stacey completed her VCE in 2009 and now works part time in dance retail and hospitality while studying for her teacher qualification.

Bryone Wharton
Boys Funk, Boys Tap, Song and Dance

 

Bry started dancing when she was 3. She studied Ballet, Jazz & Tap with Lance Davies, Barbara Lynch and Tony Bartuccio. Bry studied singing and piano under Mrs Cleone Jordan - Melder B.Mus. Bry has an extensive list of credits including Young Talent Time, Pot of Gold, Early Bird Show, The Don Lane Show. Bry has been teaching since 1983.

Rowena Lynch

Acrobatics

 

After spending her childhood involved in gymnastics as a competitor Rowena has spent the last 23 years of her life involved in gymnastics as an administrator, coach, judge, educator and coaching course presenter. Rowena holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sports Science with major studies in coaching. She is a National Coaching Course Presenter for Gymnastics Australia, a level 2 women’s artistic gymnastics coach and holds level 1 coaching qualifications in men's gymnastics and kindergym. Rowena founded, was club co-ordinator & head coach at a large regional gymnastics centre for over a decade. The club produced numerous Victorian Champions and Victorian team members (coaches, judges and gymnasts) along with National Championship medalists. The club also delivered a wide variety of recreational and school programs to the region. In 2004 she was nominated for the Vicsport Regional Award for Sports Leadership for her development of gymnastics programs. Rowena has taught acrobatics to dancers in the past, currently lectures at the University of Ballarat in Physical Education and Human Movement programs, and acts as an auditor of interstate gymnastics clubs for Gymnastics Australia in it’s club 10 Quality Assurance program.

Rhys Velasquez
Hip Hop/Jazz

 

Rhys holds his Teachers Certificate in Jazz and Tap under the C.S.T.D syllabus. Rhys has been dancing since the age of seven at the Performance Plus Dance Centre, situated in his hometown, Ipswich, Queensland. Rhys has studied many facets of dance including Tap, Jazz, Classical Ballet, Music Theatre, Hip Hop & Contemporary. Rhys has a strong passion for performing and is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) at the University of Ballarat, Arts Academy. His passion for performing started young whilst performing in musicals, dance concerts, eisteddfods in both singing and dancing and even got the chance to perform in Disneyland. His music theatre credits include Cats, Guys & Dolls, Grease, Seussical, Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Spelling Bee, Whistle Down the Wind & High School Musical. Rhys has participated in workshops with some of the finest performers and studios around the world including workshops with Disneyland (Tap, Music Theatre), The Edge (Hip Hop, Contemporary), Broadway Dance Centre (Fosse Jazz, Hip Hop), Alvin Ailey (Contemporary, West African, Ballet), Chris Horsey, Leah Howard, Sarah Boulter, Dale Pengelly, Nicci Hope, Tia Jordan & Kelley Abbey. Rhys is excited to join the team at BBC.

Renee Steel

Renée originally trained in Ballarat under the guidance of Pamela Waghorn (Ballarat Dance Works) and the late Graeme Coombs (Graeme Coombs Talent School). In Melbourne she trained with Kerrie Power at Isolation Dance Studio. She moved to London 11 years ago to travel, perform and complete her dance teacher training.

Renée holds a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies at the Royal Academy of Dance in London (ARAD). She is also a qualified Tap Dance and Jazz teacher, holding a Certificate in Dance Education (AISTD, Tap/Jazz) with the ISTD, London.

During her time in London, Renée taught for:  First Steps Academy of Dance, Chelsea Ballet Schools, several Private and Nursery schools and Monkey Music (baby and toddler classes). She has coached and entered hundreds of children for examinations and has choreographed for competitions and many public performances.

 

Andrew Dowler

Andrew is a fully Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise Sports Science  Australia (ESSA). He specializes in functional postural exercise correction and works closely with other health professionals.

Andrews experience includes; Teaching at University of Ballarat School of Human Movement, Exercise Physiologist at  Ballarat Health Services Exercise Therapy department for 8 years, Currently Lectures for State YMCA in the Cert III/IV of fitness and personal training, Worked within the health and fitness industry for 7 years teaching group fitness and personal training, Private Practice and consultation, Rehab Consultant for OnTrack Fitness.

Emma Wolfe

Hip Hop

 

Emma has been dancing since the age of seven at Jeninas Dance Workshop, in her hometown of Hobart, Tasmania. She has trained in the styles of Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Neo-Classical, and Song and Dance as well as competing in various Eisteddfods. Not only does Emma have many years of dance and singing training but has been performing in both local and paid performances since the young age of 10, with her first role being Brigitta in 'The Sound of Music', for ExitLeft Productions at the Theatre Royal Hobart. She featured as the lead role in 'Snoopy the Musical', going on to also perform 'Cats' along side Debra Byrne, 'High School Musical' and more recently appearing as Little Red in the pantomime 'Little Red Riding Hood' for Onyx Players. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Musical theatre) at the University of Ballarat Arts Academy, with an aim to not only further her career in the performing arts, but to fulfill her passion and love of teaching children.

Felicity Trigg
Administration
Felicity has been involved with dance since the age of 8.  She danced herself for 13 years and worked in her family's dancewear shop while studying for a Bachelor of Arts (Police studies) with a major in psychology at Deakin. After graduating in 2000, Felicity left home to travel the world. Now back home in Ballarat, Felicity helps run a building company with her husband as well as working at BBC as Administration Director where she assists in the day to day administration involved in running the school.  You will see her every Saturday at the studio collecting fees, performing eftpos transactions, answering questions and generally helping out and being a point of contact for all students, parents and teachers.
